Food is fine. Things came out lukewarm, but tasted good. Good beer selection.
Portsmouth Publick House is a quaint little local joint to stop into for a quick bite to eat. Joyce was very friendly and pleasant as our wait staff, with a friendly smile and a pleasant word. The pasta with littleneck clams had a lovely white wine sauce with garlic bread on the side and an ample amount of clams. The margarita pizza had a hearty amount of fresh mozzarella on top with fresh tomatoes, and fresh basil, the dough being crispy and airy. Last but not least was the delicious red velvet cupcake which was light bodied, with a creamy cream cheese frosting on top.
However, my second visit wasn’t quite as impressive, probably around 3.5 stars. My wife and I had initially thought the car museum down the street was hosting a fundraiser, and we wanted to stop by quickly since we enjoyed it the first time. Unfortunately, the nachos this time were burnt, and the service was a bit slow. On a positive note, the fried pickles and Asian dumplings were excellent. One downside for me (just a personal preference) was that they only served Pepsi products and not Coke. As a DC fan, I found that disappointing. Our server was friendly and accommodating, but didn’t check on us very often. I’m sure I’ll be back, but I might be a little more selective with my timing and choices next time.
The restaurant offers a lovely and spotless ambiance, complemented by excellent coffee, a cozy fireplace, and delightful baked goods!
