We had a very satisfying lunch here served by the owner that was very welcoming. I was offered gluten free crackers (which does not happen often) and my husband liked their home made bread very much. Excellent local wine by glass. We ate only seafood antipasti and seconds and enjoyed all the dishes, especially squid. Price is reasonable for what we had.
Although Porto azzurro tend to be a touristic destination, yet the restaurant failed to satisfy both locals or foreigners taste. As I live in Milano, the pasta dish in the restaurants costs more, and nothing special. Milan has still fresh seafood dishes with less price. Taste was so basic Service isn’t so good as well. Waiters are in extreme hurry. Food is not served to the whole table at one time. My dish arrived after all my friends finished their dishes already. As you also pay for location and restaurant design and quality, furniture and table sheets are more likely to be for truck restaurant or burger shop. Fits more of teen travelers than couples or mature group of friends. I’d give it 2.5 or 3/5 Pros: Close to Marina Cons: Unpleasant table service, Overpriced.
.... and this remark is important, because I think the presence of the old name misleads the travelers and prevents them put their own reviews. Probably recently the management has also changed, because we cannot confirm at all the rude staff service, as referred by some travelers. The restaurant now is characterized because all the kinds of pasta (except the spaghetti) are homemade. In fact we enjoyed very much the so-called pappardelle (actually in Tuscany pappardelle are mostly kind of tagliatelle , while here a kind of short and wide pasta is named so). Obviously we requested them with (various) sea recipes. We also ordered two seafood appetizers (shared for four people), and three desserts: including the cantuccini (dry biscuits), to be dipped in a glass of liqueur wine Aleatico , typical of Elba. Last but not least: the bill value. Two appetizers, four first courses, three desserts, two glasses of wine and two bottles of water, resulted in a charge of 97 EUR; then less than 25 euros each. That, for a fish meal and for Elba Island, it is very appreciable.
