I stopped by to grab some bagels, and the store was bustling with activity. I ordered six bagels, and they were cut for me. I also received some cream cheese to go along with them. The bagels are said to be boiled rather than baked, which makes a difference. The restaurant had a good number of customers, and the bagels were delicious. I will definitely be visiting again.
I visited relatives at Reed College and we decided to stop by this café for coffee and pastries. I'm so glad we did! The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, without any pretentiousness. It feels like a local hangout. If we return to Reed, we will definitely make it a point to come back!
I don 't spend enough time in Woodstock I 've decided. Accessible by the bus 19, 75 and 71 ... it 's a short hop from some of Portland 's other high profile neighborhoods to get to this one. Here, while there 's signs of the new Portland (New Season, Heart Coffee Shop to name two obvious examples) much of old Portland carries on here as if no time has passed at all. Operating since 1989, Papacinno 's is part of the fading Portland. Some patrons will find this place a bit tired , but I enjoyed its down home vibe. Neighbors gather at a round table to chat, kids run around in the play area in the back corner of the shop. Things move a bit slower here with little or no pretension. Service is down to earth , but kind. Baked goods are super not healthy for you so if you 're on a diet, stay away from the pastries! There 's a cereal bar (where you can pour yourself your favorite dried cereal) and there 's also plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy yourself. The tea selections were surprisingly varied. Not just Smith Tea or the ever present Jasmine Pearls brand. If you don 't want to deal with hipsters, but mingle with the real Portland , come in here for some coffee. The tea was 2.50 cents ... the cheapest I 've paid in a long, long time. Keep expectations low, and all will be well.
This is truly a great place to hang out as well as enjoy good coffee, other drinks and food. It 's so very inviting and quite family friendly as they have a very nice play area for children. It 's very spacious, lots of comfortable seating. I like to say it 's Jim and Patty 's only with good service. I like to stop here while in Woodstock it 's not close to my neighborhood but it 's worth the trek.
