India House - Portland

We have come to India House for many years now. It 's dependable, good Indian food with a fairly extensive menu. It 's a family-friendly restaurant, usually with quick service. They have decent Indian beers as well as local wine choices, but they also offer delicious mango lassi 's for the kids! You are able to choose the level of spiciness you prefer for each dish. It is not 'fine dining ', but it 's a decent and comfortable restaurant with good food and a convenient location!

We had a horrible experience. We waited over 2 hours to receive our food! The wait staff was indifferent and did nothing to accommodate the crazy long wait. When the food arrived it was tasteless. The food had obviously sat in warming kettles. It was over cooked and under spiced. Terrible dining experience. Will NEVER return!!!!!!

I had not been to India House in about 10 years. I remember the food being much better then, especially the garlic naan and the biryani. Our order came out very quickly and the food was not sufficiently heated, and seemed like it had been quickly heated in a microwave.

Driven by many times, always wanted to stop in. Finally did, was not disappointed at all. The rice (2 choices) was cooked perfectly, the dal and other toppings were excellent. Unfortunately, l don't eat a lot, so... it wasn't a good deal for me, but my plate was delicious. I don't like green tea, and that is what they offered. Will I go again? Yes, with someone who has a large stomach!

Things were okay until more people arrived, waiter couldn't attend everyone efficiently (as he was the only one there with one other gal . Please hire more if you expect the place to be busy. :
