Think of high-end style cooking creations at reasonable prices in your favorite café. I had the Seared Mahi Mahi w/Keykalk Aoli and mixed Veggies not the soggy Squash and Zucchini offered anywhere else we ate) that was fresh and divine! We'll eat at Shell when we visit Port Aransis.
This is my childhood favorite place to eat on the island. This family run restaurant may be of the best kept secrets in all of Texas dining. Fresh and Professional are the first 2 words that come to mind. The food is prepared, plated and presented beautifully. Their menu is a thoughtful expression of the Texas coastal fare with delicious steaks for a more traditional dinner. The open face tuna sandwich is a must have, and their homemade sauces and bread really make the meal. The peach sangria had mango in it, so be careful if you have allergies as my wife found out. The seared Mahi Mahi, with lime aioli sauce and steamed vegetables was very tasty. A bit over steamed on the vegetables, but the addition of jicama to the medley was nice. The sauce was as good as it gets and brought the entire dish together. If you are ever in Port Aransas, Shells is a must visit. Fresh, thoughtful, and wonderfully food prepared consistently for well over 20 years that I've been eating there. they also serve some of the best Sushi.
Very small restaurant inside. Great service! Outside patio area. Large variety of items to choose from. They have a different mix of food, Asian, seafood and Italian. Not a big selection of fried dishes. The flounder was really tasty. Mango Cervce is good but a bit on the sweet side. Pricey come prepared. Pricey kids meals. $9.00 for Fettuccine Alfredo. I guess they are still recovery from the hurricane... all in all I?d go back.
Shells is a small place on a busy corner, we knew they'd be busy on a Friday night so we went early, and were seated immediately. We tried the ceviche and lobster salad on toasted crostini as appetizers, both were just OK. For entrees, we had the seared Mahi Mahi and the sauteed Grouper, both were very good. We selected a decent pinot grigio for dinner, which was good and reasonable priced. The staff at Shells was an odd mixture of people, none of whom seemed to really care whether or not the diners had a good experience. From the hostess to our waitress, there was a very palpable air of disinterestedness. Perhaps it's a training issue, it was hard to tell. We don't need to go back, there are too many top-notch seafood places in Port A to spend an evening at a restaurant that is average at best.
We never knew this place existed! I'm so glad we found it. Did not wait long to be seated and the server was so amazing and attentive. My son even dropped some of his canned soda and the waitress brought him a new one super fast. Everything looked so good we couldn't decide what to get but what we did get was delicious. Everyone was very satisfied with our meals. Definitely recommended if your looking for a seafood/pasta/with a tiny bit of Asian flair.
