Pizzeria La Pergola - PONTE DI LEGNO

Tried to book this restaurant by phoning on multiple occasions and the phone kept ringing out. So turned up hoping to get a table and the man who greeted us was massively dismissive and incredibly rude. Rather than explaining that there were no tables available in a polite manner he was curt, snooty and clearly not a fan of English holidaymakers as he waved bunches of locals past us. We were two families seven in total who tried to speak in Italian and who said that we would come back but they clearly did not want our business. Would not recommend.

We ate here tonight. I've eaten here several times during three separate holidays over the last three years. They were unable to accommodate us last night so I asked to book tonight and was offered either 7.30 or 8.30. I booked the earlier time, arrived on time and we ate three courses. We ordered each course as soon as asked. At 8.55 we hadn't finished our desserts but the waiter apologized and said that they needed our table. He didn't bring the bill. We finished our desserts and as I couldn't attract the attention of the waiter for the bill I went to the counter to pay. I then had an uncomfortable discussion with the staff as to why we had finished 30 minutes after they needed the table. I pointed out that no one had told us that the table was needed at 8.30, and indeed they were happy to take our dessert orders after that time. Unfortunately as I don't speak Italian I was at a distinct disadvantage. It seems unreasonable to expect anyone to eat a three course meal in an hour, particularly when this had not been discussed at time if booking. As we ordered when asked any delay was actually the responsibility of their waiting staff not us. If you have read this far you may as well know that the takeaway pizza we had last night from the same restaurant was the wrong order but we didn't find this out until back at our hotel and ended up struggling through an anchovie pizza. I had decided not to mention this to the restaurant tonight as mistakes can happen, but their attitude makes me think I made the wrong decision.

Huge pizzas and tasty too. Great chips. The coffees we ordered were complimentary. After staying in a disappointing hotel in Passo Tonale with terrible food, this place restored our faith. Highly recommended.
