Sunrise Piet Retief

I was very disappointed with the food, I had a burger which had a lovely thick patty but it was over cooked, slightly burnt and dry. I ordered a bacon and cheese hamburger and there was no sign of cheese on the burger. The chips that came with were not properly cooked and tasted a bit raw, nice spice on them though. The waffle was obviously a frozen waffle that had been heated up and the apple slices were clearly from a tin. For a place that is called the Waffle Shack you would expect home made waffles. All in all very disappointing. We also asked for a glass of red wine, but they could only offer sweet red wine, no dry red wine.

Go here quite often for breakfast. Their food is lovely and the portions are big enough to fill you.

Best breakfast ever. Dont waste your time at massively produced breakfast fast-food outlets. When you passing Piet Retief, pop in here for a great meal!

A quaint little restaurant located behind the Sundowner lodge... it has a little farm with small animals and various curios on display in the restaurant. It has a very homely feel. I ordered the pie and wasn’t expecting such a giant portion. The beef was so tender and tasty and the pie crust was nice and crisp. My boyfriend had the breakfast croissant which was delicious and cheesy. Definitely a good spot for a quick breakfast if you’re passing through Piet Retief.
