Queen Rook is something really special. My girlfriend and I were visiting a friend in Philly and chose to come to G R on our last evening in town. For context, neither of them are big board game or TCG players. What an experience. We asked the owner initially what games would be quick so we could start easy and he gave us 3 great choices of varying complexity. Ultimately my group decided they wanted to learn Magic the Gathering. The owner ran to the other store to personally curate Start Up packs for us to create our own decks with and learn. Not only that but when my girlfriend won her first game of Magic, he treated her to a winner 's pack and gave each of us a prize card. It really made for a special evening and created a welcoming atmosphere. He explained the cafe has made a lot of strides with being more inclusive with women and the LGBTQ community and I believe it. The drinks were also wonderful (Try the Bulbasaur if it 's available). If you 're a local, I strongly recommend checking out G R. I know it will be on our return to list on future trips.
It was so hot and no AC. They put 3 fans which make no difference and the food was so oily that we couldn't eat at all. Tables were also dirty. I have no idea how others were able to sit in there, outside was around 85° and the inside was hotter than the outside. Seriously do not go there, especially in the summer, at least they didn't make us pay, but we did only spend less than 10 minutes in there. I'm not sure how a business can run like that
What a FUN idea! Loads of board games are located on shelves for you to choose from yourself or you can ask a Game Sommelier to pick some for you to choose from. I suggest that you have the Game Sommelier ask you questions regarding games you like and see what they bring to your table. You may find your new favorite game! Some cool Japanese style seating is available, along with a couple bar chairs and some regular tables. You pay $7/person to play the games. Food drink just add to the experience.Street parking
