I stopped by for lunch without a reservation, but fortunately, I was able to get a table. I would recommend booking ahead since the restaurant is spacious and was quite busy on a rainy Tuesday in November. The staff were welcoming and provided excellent service. The menu had a variety of options to choose from. The food was delicious, well-prepared, and generously portioned. The standout dish was the steak pie, with tender beef and flaky pastry. However, the highlight of the meal was the Apple and cinnamon crumble served with custard and ice cream. My advice is to save room for dessert.
My husband and I celebrated our 1st Wedding Anniversary today with a meal at this restaurant. We arrived at 2pm and my husband ordered the **** a leekie while I had the balgeddie smokey. The food is consistently excellent every time we visit. The chef is inventive and skilled without being arrogant. The dishes are always delicious and amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant. Kudos to Neil and his team for a fantastic dining experience.
We have visited a number of times, we enjoy the ambience and intimacy of the place. This visit was for lunch as a wee treat, we each had 3 courses and we all commented on how good the food was, it was lovely the best I have had for a while. That coupled with the service was worth the visit. Thank you, a satisfied and full customer :
We were staying for nearby for a few days, and fancied a meal out. This was the most convenient place for us, so we booked what we assumed would be just a normal pub meal. How wrong we were! It was so much more: the service and the food were exceptional, the dishes offering tasty and imaginative combinations of predominantly local and very fresh produce. We were really impressed that portions of the mains were available in two sizes, too: not everyone has the same sized appetites. It was our penultimate night in the area, but even before we’d finished our main courses we’d decided unanimously to try and book again for the following night, if we could. Luckily, we were able to get a place! Although it’s in a very rural setting, the tavern is only a short detour from the northbound M90 motorway between the outskirts of Edinburgh to Perth: southbound you’d need to do a loop back between the Kinross exit and the northbound exit for the A91 to reach it, though in these days of satnavs and smartphone apps, it’s easy. At the time of writing, it’s closed on Wednesdays, but open for lunches and evening meals on the other days. Weekends in particular can be busy, so it’s worth booking ahead. Highly recommended if you’re in the area, or even just passing through!
