We dine at the Tavern at least once a week, particularly on Wednesdays.
The atmosphere and crowd at the restaurant were lively and upbeat, and our server was friendly. However, the food was disappointing. The Mahi Mahi was decent, but the rice was overly salted and tasted like Rice-a-Roni. The mixed vegetables were bland, undercooked, and lacked flavor. The Steak Frite tasted like tough, cheap meat and was accompanied by undercooked vegetables. Overall, not a place for food enthusiasts to visit.
Made a reservation over the phone for 8 pm. Got there and a high school-aged hostess insisted they had no reservation for me. She gave me a beeper and put us on the wait list for what she said was a 30 minute wait. My friend then went up and asked to speak with the girl who TOOK the phone reservation. She was somehow able to locate our reservation and wanted us to sit immediately- but we had already ordered drinks at the bar based upon the other numbskull's insistence that we wait 30 minutes.... after that guffaw, we got our table. The waiter assured me that the spaghetti squash dinner also had regular, real spaghetti. Sure enough, it came, and was a total vegetable dish- no pasta. It was also brought out -AFTER THE OTHER 3 PEOPLE'S meals were brought out. My friend's white wine was hardly filled even halfway and when we mentioned it to the waiter he said their glasses are larger. Not quite. Food was good enough for this area, but not worth the aggravation with the staff.
My wife and I had a nice relaxing lunch at Village Tavern. The service was great and the food was even better. They have a large menu and everything sounds awesome. If you can't decide on what to get, try one of their specials or ask your server for suggestions. Freshly baked bread is served before your meal. Portion sizes were good. If you are on a budget or trying to diet, share a entree. You will not walk out dissatisfied.
