フィードバックを提供するGin Sushi. I came here when my son started at Caltech. A very lively place. Loved the atmosphere and sushi. Will go back there again.
Mmmmmmm yummy food but sometimes they forget to bring my drinks.
All about the sashimi!. Met up with my friend at gin one dreary and wet night to catch up and to nosh. since she was coming out from the IE, we met half way in pasadena......well, technically 1/3 for me. haha. <br/ <br/ her husband goes to gin all the time with his friends, therefore, she suggested we meet at gin. i 've driven by gin a few times abut never thought to look into it. and boy was i surprised!! the meal was actually quite good! however, be careful in what you order because the place can be hit or miss. <br/ <br/ we ordered the following: <br/ <br/ 1. mirugai: the geoduck sashimi was extremely fresh, crisp and sweet. the sushi chefs did not skimp and our sashimi order came with at least a dozen pieces of mirugai. this stuff was VERY good. we asked for a 2nd order but they were out. insert sad face here..... <br/ <br/ 2. hamachi: also very good. the first order was your standard hamachi cut from the center of the body. very firm and tender, signaling fresh fish. the 2nd order was cut from the belly and was divine. if i had known, i would have initially asked for cuts from the belly. of note.....if you have a good repertoire with the sushi chef, he will not cut fish that is sitting in the display case, he will go to the locker and pull out exceedingly fresh stuff. <br/ <br/ 3. uni: the box of uni in the display case looked dreadful (dark and runny), therefore, we asked for 'fresh ' uni. the sushi chef happily obliged and cracked open a new box of uni which was shiny yellow/gold and firm. this was good uni. not as good as other places, but i was quite happy. we had 2 orders of this golden gonad deliciousness.<br/ <br/ 4. maguro: we ordered ono but he gave me maguro. whoops. the maguro was very standard, nothing special. <br/ <br/ 5. spicy scallop: this was quite good as well. the scallop was very fresh, firm and sweet. we ended up with two orders of this. delicious. <br/ <br/ 6. sake: the salmon was decent. it was light in taste/flavor and was much less oily than the sake found at, say....sushi zo. i 'd give the sake here a 5 or 6. palatable but not flavorful enough.<br/ <br/ gin sushi does not carry anything special such as aji, toro, kanpachi, etc. gin just carries the run of the mill fishes and shellfish.....well, other than their solid and tasty mirugai. service was good and the sushi chefs were fun to chat with. <br/ <br/ i will definitely go back if i am in the neck of the woods. once again, just order carefully.
One of my go-to spots. The sushi here is excellent and reasonably priced. Gin's is the perfect place if you prefer your sushi straightforward. They offer a menu of elaborate rolls, which are tasty, but the sushi and sashimi are truly the stars. The lunch special is fantastic as well. For around $8, you can enjoy a combination of cooked dishes and sushi. It's the best budget-friendly lunch option around!
The gin is excellent, and the prices are quite reasonable compared to other sushi restaurants. The service is quick, and the portion sizes are generous.
