Black-eyed Pea - Parker

Our waitress Kenzie was outstanding. She was knowledgeable and provided excellent service.

I absolutely love the food at this restaurant. I often choose from the senior menu, and my go-to dish is the four vegetable option. I haven’t encountered a single meal I didn’t enjoy. The liver and onions are fantastic, and the fried catfish is perfectly crispy. All the vegetables are delightful, and I can never turn down the rolls and cornbread. I haven’t tried any of the desserts yet, as I always feel too full after my meal!

My family and I went there for dinner on a Tuesday night when it was fairly quiet. We quickly placed our order since we knew what we wanted and had two hungry kids with us. As we waited for our food, we noticed that tables seated after us were already receiving their meals. After waiting over half an hour, I finally tracked down our waitress to ask how much longer it would be. She assured us that our food would be out in less than five minutes. At that point, our kids were getting restless and pointed out that we were the only table without food. Ten more minutes passed, and still nothing arrived. I approached another waitress and requested to speak to a manager, as ours was nowhere to be found. The manager came over and said she would investigate the delay. When she returned, she explained that our kids had ordered pizzas, which take 12 minutes to cook, and that the waitress had incorrectly input our order. While she corrected it, a larger party had ordered, which had further delayed our meal. This explanation didn’t quite sit right, as other tables—some who arrived after us—were already enjoying their food. Just as we were wrapping up our conversation with the manager, our food finally came out—after waiting over 40 minutes—while at least five other tables that came after us were already eating. To make matters worse, the table right next to us had received their food despite having ordered less than 10 minutes prior. If our order was put in incorrectly, they could have brought out other dishes first while we waited for the pizzas. The manager offered us a complimentary dessert, but at that point, all we wanted was for our kids to eat and to move on with our evening. We declined the offer because it felt more like a pity gesture than a genuine acknowledgment of the mistake. Once we finally received our food, the waitress didn’t come back to check on us. I had to get up once again to locate her and ask for our check.

Did you know Black Eyed Pea was still around? Neither did I. Just as I remembered. Chicken fried steak still hit the spot. Wish they still had the corn bread. Great lunch with great service.
