La Banyeta - Palol de Revardit

The owner teaches at the local hotel school and you can tell a lot of thought has gone into the dishes on the menu. Extremely high quality. Veal cheeks, lamb in 3 textures, dove risotto and a desert looking like a flower pot full of earth but is actually all edible. Very extensive wine list, the owner likes to play a game whereby he serves the wine in a decanter and makes you guess what it is. Quite expensive.

A very pleasant surprise for a quick dinner for two. The place is an old country restaurant now moving into more adventurous and imaginative. A very knowledgeable sommelier and a very reasonable price make this a well-worth experience.

We stumbled upon this restaurant when exiting the main road between Girona and Banyoles. It is a bit hidden in the corner of the exit, and looks like a normal villa with only modest indications it is actually a restaurant. Once parked behind the villa, we walked in to find a series of dining rooms with modern interiors and some nice modern art on the walls. Given that we were early for lunch nor spoke Catalan, we received full attention from the female owner who also is the cook. The menu is based on the season, available only in Catalan, and limited in terms of dishes. However, the quality is superb! More so because each dish is negotiable ; that is, the cook can prepare it with the side dishes and in the style one wants (grilled, for example). She is very willing to discuss alternative options of preparing and, in general, talk about the food. There is definitely a creative touch to each dish, cooked to the right point, and well presented. The wine menu is extensive in terms of types, regions, and years. We received good advice on the pairing (we had wine by the glass, different with each dish) and when we didn 't like one of the wines (too dominant), no problem, and more suitable bottle was opened instead. The restaurant was not busy during lunch (about 3-4 tables), so attention to all guests continued to be given. The only wrestle we had was with the Catalan, but translating up and down to English via Spanish worked out well. The final bill after 2 hours of happy eating amounted to 86 euros for 2 people, 3 courses, 3 different glasses of wine, coffee and a digestive. We will return!

Molt bé, molta qualitat en el menjar i en el servei. Tenir el restaurant obert només per el nostre grup va ser genial. Obre el restaurant per grups a partir de 10 persones. El preu és raonable i està acord amb la qualitat del menjar i servei.
