Inside the market building is Sandi's Bakery, which offers end-of-the-day treats. I decided to try a key lime muffin and a strawberry scone. The muffin had great flavor, although it was a bit dry, but it was still better than the overcooked strawberry scone, which cost $3.50. My husband initially thought the dried strawberries in the scone were chocolate chips, so you can imagine how overcooked it was. As someone who enjoys baking, I always look for homemade specialties while on the road, but it’s often difficult to find a fluffy, tender scone in these kinds of bakery markets. Unfortunately, the two items I purchased came to $7, which felt like a disappointment given the quality.
Ms. Sandi was incredibly helpful and kind to our family. We have a serious allergy, and she and her staff went above and beyond to ensure that the food we ordered was safe for us. The food was delicious, and we plan to return frequently. What a fantastic restaurant!
Visit this place immediately. Seriously, don’t hesitate or overthink it—just get your shoes on (yes, you should wear shoes!), grab your keys and wallet, and head out. Go now!
My husband has chronic issues with gluten intolerance. I want to note he does NOT have, nor has been diagnosed with celiac disease. When he ingests gluten he has fatigue, joint pain, and many other issues that the rest of his family unfortunately suffers from. While visiting there one day, Sandi told me that most people with gluten intolerance can eat her freshly-milled products with little to no issues. I started small, buying only a few products and having my husband eat them and he said he noticed no problems (normally he can tell in a day, or even a few hours). So the next time I was down there I bought A LOT of products--bread, sticky buns, cookies, and a donut. And I encouraged him to eat a lot of them at once just to see if it kicked up his sensitivity. So he had them for dessert, sandwiches, cookies with his coffee...etc, and I asked him regularly if he noticed any issues with them. And he has not.I am so impressed by this and thrilled we have found products he can consume. Sandi is so knowledgeable and informed and she showed me where they bought their mill and the grain they use. I plan on investing in a mill now and incorporating this into our home. My one regret is I do not live closer to her bakery! If I didn't live over 2 1/2 hours away I'd be there every week!
Absolutely one of the best if not to the best baker in the region.
