Steak 'n Shake - Oxford

The last time my wife and I visited the University of Mississippi campus in Oxford, Mississippi, there wasn't a Steak 'n Shake located at 762 All-American Drive, right next to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. As we planned our trip to Oxford this year, I was excited to have lunch at what I expected to be a bustling spot, especially on game days when thousands of Ole Miss students, alumni, and fans gathered at the nearby Grove before heading to the Saturday afternoon football game. Unfortunately, we were disappointed to find that Steak 'n Shake is temporarily closed. I assume this is due to COVID. I can only imagine how much business the restaurant is losing, especially when classes are in session and Ole Miss is hosting teams like Alabama, Mississippi State, or Georgia. It's akin to shutting down an Irish pub on St. Patrick's Day in Chicago. I distinctly remember how popular Steak 'n Shake was when I attended the University of Illinois from 1958 to 1962; it was a go-to spot after class, on weekends, and during finals week. I'm sure Ole Miss students feel the same way.

The food is consistently excellent, but the service could be faster.

Delicious food and shakes at great prices!
