Have eaten here before and it has maintained its standards. A Comprehensive menu with plenty of seafood choices Nice to sit on the terrace and enjoy the food. Good, quick efficient and friendly service. The food was fresh tasty and reasonably priced.
We three had lunch here on a Sunday. The restaurant is well-patronised justifiably so. The menu is extensive and there are daily specials even at the weekend. The waiting staff are very good at what they do and their eyes are open for...even a slightly raised hand to make sure everything is right. There is a pronounced bonhomie and relaxed atmosphere. Equally important a well-developed sense of humour. Portions are copieux'. Loved it.
As everyone else here seems to say, we visited this place waiting for the evening ferry to Portsmouth. We ate outside as it was a nice day, regretted this as the table next to us smoked like chimneys, it was horrible. I had oysters (which...were nice) but my merguez sausages were mostly burned. My wife's salmon fillet' was full of bones. Kids had pasta and pizza and were happy. Can't recommend, I'm sorry to say.
We chose La Marine to spend a couple of hours as a family of waiting for our overnight ferry back to Portsmouth...and wished we'd gone elsewhere. Having eaten quite a lot while driving through France we weren't that hungry so just ordered a pizza,...moules mariniere and some chips to go with our wine and beer. The waiter didn't seem that happy with our meagre order, although there were plenty of spare tables. Drinks arrived fairly swiftly, unfortunately I can't recommend the white wine and didn't drink much of it in the end. Pizza was good and our boys demolished that fairly swiftly. Sadly the chips never arrived. Then we come to the mussels. I'm not sure what happened but they were definitely not washed, gritty and containing a piece of twine! The sauce was basically sea water with some chopped onion and there wasn't any bread to mop it up with anyway. Needless to say I didn't have much of that either. Toilets weren't clean. Naturally I wouldn't recommend La Marine, but if you do end up there go for pizza and beer!
