Sweet Basil Restaurant - Ottawa

The food at Sweet Basil used to be the best Thai in Ottawa, but on a recent visit, we noticed a definite change in the meno and the quality of food.I think it may be becoming a fusion Asian food restaurant, rather than specifically Thai.The servers are really friendly and will always assist with whether the food could be too spicy for you.I would definitely go here again.

The night we were there was the first week of the new ownership. I had never been there before so I cannot compare then and now. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and as we were eating at 5 it was not busy yet. The chef and I presume owner or part owner came out as we had questions about the menu and he basically told us that if we did not see something we wanted on the menu we could just tell him and he would make it or, if we wanted something on the menu with a different twist he could do that too. Not sure if that is still the case but he was very very accommodating. I ordered a chicken dish and a separate dish of sweet and sour veggies, both were excellent. My friend ordered a different chicken dish and she was pleased with her choice. Our server was a very pleasant young woman who was very good at keeping our green tea pot full. As we were half way through our meal groups of people were coming in and by the time we left the restaurant was almost full. I was happy to see this as it is a lovely place and I hope they do well.

A good restaurant. It was a nice place for a quiet lunch. Easy for conversation and good food served quickly.

Had dinner and several take outs.. the food is always excellent and tasty. I highly recommend the Thai experience.... One word "delicious"!

My wife and I just had a fantastic meal at Sweet Basil. Along with the great appetizers we had very tasty green curry dinner and pad kee mow of a most generous quantity. The service was friendly and fast. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
