Nicastro - Ottawa

We pick up our italian cuts from here and they have a very good selection of cheeses and pates. Once in a while they shake it up with a demo and a cheese rep introducing a new cheese. Nice colourful and busy place with great selection of goods. There is a small dinner in the back too. Enjoy. Wish they served wine but this being Ontario the good, hey, there are limits to the fun people in the province can have.

Not sure what to get for lunch when visiting the Byward Market and on a tight budget? Get a custom made sandwich @ Nicastros. There will be lineups both at the sandwich bar and at the cash, but that's what you have to do for a great sandwich.

The food is so fresh and tasty, the sandwiches almost melt in your mouth. The salami has a "homemade" flavour to it, and the cheeses are so fresh they squeak.

Besides having a great selection of imported foods, the deli makes freshly to your tastes, the best sandwiches ever with ingredients like spicy pickled eggplant, provolone cheese and genoa salami. You also get to pick the bread of your choice to put these yummy ingredients on. I was able to buy porcini mushroom cream here and squid ink for making homemade pasta. Not always easy to find ingredients. Always fun to visit Nicastros at the Byward Market.

I can only comment on the delicious canollies they have on saturdays. They go fast! They have a big selection of italian products, although I did not buy any.
