フィードバックを提供するI drove by here tonight and saw that they have closed. Sadly, what I think was a contributing factor was that the neighborhood was being transformed into something of an entertainment area and with an influx of trendy restaurants, some of the older neighborhood restaurants would fall to the wayside. The food was never great, but it was good and if you were in the neighborhood, it was convenient. The service was always good. It is a shame to see this place gone.
On a brighter note, the marinara sauce was thick enough to adhere to the pasta, which is a plus (especially since many other Italian places I’ve visited have overly watery sauces). The flavor was just average though. The third person in our group ordered the pasta with clam sauce and was quite pleased with it. As for the service, it was nothing to write home about. We requested a little time to decide on our orders, but the server went back to the counter and started chatting with her colleagues. Despite waving my hands to get her attention, she didn't look back for a while. If you're considering this place, I recommend checking their Facebook page. I found a deal for a buy one, get one free pasta dish through one of their ads, which was a nice bonus.
We hadn't visited this restaurant in several years and, if memory serves, we weren't big fans of it before. However, this time we were pleasantly surprised. We arrived with my parents and were seated immediately. They provided high chairs without any delay. The menus were clear and organized into categories, which made it easy to browse. Our server was prompt and efficient, bringing us drinks while we reviewed the menu. Once we were ready, he promptly took our order. Although it took a little while for our food to arrive, everything was fresh and made to order, making the wait worthwhile. I ordered the classic spaghetti with meat sauce, and it was quite delicious. The portion was generous enough to easily share or take home. The garlic knots were a must-try, while I found the breadsticks less appealing; the garlic knots were simply fantastic. The prices were very reasonable, especially for an Italian restaurant. I appreciated the warm, homey atmosphere. It may not be the fanciest place, but the food is excellent and fulfills its purpose well. Overall, I would describe our experience as quick, efficient, and flavorful, all at a reasonable price. Don't miss the garlic knots!
In the category of cool neighborhood spots, Italian House takes the prize. Not much to write home about in terms of decor, nothing fancy, however, they make it up with warm service and good food. There are plenty of choices on the menu to please everyone in your party. If you live in the area or find yourself somewhere around this place, stop by and check it out, you will be quite satisfied.
Food was fresh and delicious. Good portion sizes, including the side salad. I had the stuffed shells and would order them again!
