Matia Kitchen - Orcas Island

Wow. All I can say is WOW! Incredibly inventive, culinarily creative, and extremely memorable. Service was first class, and the knowledge of what wines to serve with each course was spot on! Every day the tasting menu is different based on what they have that day to work with. I highly recommend Matia. Not your ordinary restaurant!

Fantastic local food with unique flavor pairings. We were told the uni was caught locally by one of the servers friends. Very cool! The service is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We have been here twice now and every time the menu is new and fresh, but it’s always a treat to see what the chef has come up with to highlight the local ingredients. Our favorite dish of the night was a charred carrot panzanella, winter root pain d’epices, carrot top yogurt, savory yogurt and mint. The pain d’epices in particular was the best thing I’ve tried in the San Juan’s. The texture was moist and dense yet fluffy at the same time. Like a good banana bread but savory. Paired with the carrots and yogurt and we were in heaven. We hope our next trip to orcas includes a stop at Matia!

Excellent modern cuisine with fresh, mostly local ingredients. Great ambiance and the wine pairing with the tasting menu was absolutely perfect.
