The service was abysmal - we had to wait for staff to take our order, and there were only 4 other customers in the restaurant. The food was average, but there are better carveries in town. The presence of unsupervised children running around made it difficult to enjoy our meal and have a conversation. The staff seemed poorly trained, both in appearance and communication skills. However, the manager who cleared our table was exceptionally professional.
We called ahead to book a table at this restaurant on our way back from Yarmouth, giving them just 30 minutes notice. Megan warmly greeted us upon our arrival and the rest of the staff were equally friendly and accommodating. We had 2 children, 2 toddlers in highchairs, and 4 adults in our party. The kids were able to play in the park while we enjoyed our meal. Despite the mess the little ones made, the staff were understanding and quick to clean up any spills. We opted for the carvery and some items off the menu, and the children were able to eat their main meals for free. Our bill came to £117 for our party of 8, including soft drinks. The restaurant offers a wide selection of gluten-free options, as well as plenty of vegan and dairy-free choices, including ice cream.
Though accidents can happen, we felt that this could have been prevented if the outdoor surfaces were safe. Furthermore, when we asked for first aid assistance and an ice pack, a staff member took a long time to bring cubes of ice wrapped in blue paper. This makeshift ice pack was not suitable for a young child's injury, and we were shocked by the inadequate first aid procedure at the restaurant. We decided to leave and use a proper first aid kit from one of our cars. We were disappointed by the lack of proper safety measures at the restaurant, especially considering that it caters to children and families with indoor and outdoor play areas.
Best carvery in Norwich! Friendly staff and the play area is great for the kids. Will definitely be visiting here again in future
My husband and I had Sunday lunch here today. Not good . I had roast beef and my husband had the turkey. The beef and turkey were really nice and we got a good helping. Now for the veg: ...All the veg could have been hotter, all luke warm. The roasties tasted like they had been deep fried, not roasted. Not at all nice. The cauliflower cheese had loads of stalk in, not nice to bite into. The rest of the veg was nothing special. The gravy really left a lot to be desired, really thin and not a nice rich gravy. We certainly won't be going the Castle Carvery again.
