I do not recommend the new chicken sandwich with fried pickles. We spent over $20 for two sandwiches, and this is what we received. For some reason, I can't share my picture, so I hope to write a separate review before you decide to order. I won’t be returning.
I can confidently say this is the worst Panera in the area, and I'm not exaggerating! I stood at the counter for 15 minutes before anyone came to take my order, and I noticed six other customers waiting as well, so they must have been there even longer. One staff member kept staring at us while she wiped down the drink station but never acknowledged us. Two other customers eventually left in frustration, and I was tempted to do the same. Finally, another customer went over to the quick pick-up area and managed to get someone to assist us. Unfortunately, the service didn’t improve. The entire staff seemed unhappy, which I understand is a tough situation, but they just seemed to be going through the motions for a paycheck and doing the bare minimum. The woman who took my order tossed my bag onto the counter and walked away. Rather than waiting another 15 minutes for her to return, I decided to grab my order myself. I could also comment on the exterior of the building with its dirt and overflowing trash cans, but I guess that’s just a typical sight in North Charleston.
We ordered the full turkey sandwich on sourdough, they were from salad... so there were 2 slices of Turkey and a small Mayo on each side of bread. The bread was full. I love Panera, but that was the last visit....1 Soda, 1 cookies and a sandwich with a few slices of Turkey on Stale bread it was $18.00....? Seriously, no, no more we can go to several other sandwich shops in the area and get a delicious sandwich for half price and actually be full when finished. I'm sorry. Panera, I don't know what you think. This once was our favorite place to have mother daughter dating...?
The two ciabatta sandwiches—a scrambled egg and cheese, and a bacon, scrambled egg, and cheese—were completely devoid of flavor. If I hadn't been able to smell and taste my homebrew coffee, I would have considered getting a COVID-19 test because the food had absolutely no taste. Everything was overpriced and lacked seasoning; from the bread to the egg to the cheese, and even the paper-thin bacon had no hint of salt, smoke, or any discernible flavor. Where do they even source such bland ingredients? The bear claw was decent, with its flaky pastry and slivered almonds, but it was nothing special—something you could find anywhere that sells baked goods. I strongly suspect it was pre-made and not prepared fresh in-house. While it saved the meal from being a total disaster, it certainly didn’t compensate for the fact that I paid too much for items I didn’t receive, and was left with such a disappointing experience. I won’t be ordering from them again.
