House of Three Gorges is hands down one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants in Austin. The flavors here are incredibly rich and true to traditional Chinese cuisine. The ambiance is cozy, and the staff is friendly and attentive, making it a great spot for a relaxed dining experience. If you’re in Austin and craving authentic Chinese cuisine, House of Three Gorges should be at the top of your list.
My absolute fav place for the yummiest Mala Fish Fillet! Must try!
The owner of this restaurant was incredibly rude to us. When my daughter accidentally spilled some water, we used a few napkins to clean it up. However, the owner scolded us for wasting too many napkins. What kind of restaurant owner berates customers for using napkins to clean up a mess? If the owner doesn 't want customers using napkins, they should not be running a restaurant in the first place. I would strongly advise against bringing kids here, as the owner will likely be disrespectful. Overall, this establishment does not seem to value its customers at all. Edit: the owner wants to say it’s not true. Why would I go out of my way to write a whole review if it wasn’t true?
My experience at this place was extremely unpleasant and disappointing. On 8/20, we arrived around 5:10 p.m., hoping to enjoy a nice meal, but what we encountered was far from that. Despite giving a 18% tip (which you have to pay before eating btw), the owner started urging us to leave by 6:05 p.m., even though we had only been there for less than an hour. The owner approached us, speaking in Chinese, and rushed us to vacate our table, just to make room for other customers. I don’t understand how that’s possible for a place to rush out its customers if it’s a dine-in restaurant. Also we arrived quite early just to avoid the crowd. Adding to the frustration was seeing an older Caucasian couple nearby who had finished their meal and were chatting without being rushed or approached at all. This double standard felt incredibly disrespectful. In addition, the food was very mediocre—not worth the hassle or the price. I would strongly recommend that all Asians stay away from this restaurant. The poor treatment and subpar food make this place a no-go. I won’t be returning, and I hope others consider this experience before dining here.
