Without a doubt--the BEST Fine Dining Restaurant experience in Orange County. When we have a special occasion or feel like treating ourselves special, my wife and I head to Marche Moderne. Our last visit was amazing--as usual, but different. This visit we did the tasting menu and the wine pairing. And while a Michelin-worthy meal like this doesn't come inexpensively, for our wedding anniversary--it was perfection. We started at the bar and our bartenders are just the best. Attentive, great listeners and superbly talented and professional. The hostesses are very friendly and courteous, which sadly in Orange County, you don't always encounter. (On too many occasions I've arrived to find hostesses who believe they are doing me a favor and the thought of a warm greeting with a smile is JUST too much to ask! But not at Marche Moderne. VERY well dressed, friendly, courteous and efficient hosts and hostesses who GET IT. And make the start of your dining experience a wonderful beginning. The waiting staff have been at Marie for YEARS. And their attitude and professionalism show. True waiting PROFESSIONALS: Highly skilled, friendly, attentive and assuring the quality of every aspect of our meal. (AND THEY KNOW THE MENU . Then the star of the occasion the food which is always superb, full of amazing flavors, great subtle nuances when needed and always prepared perfectly and served as it should be: hot and fresh from the chef's hands. Kudos to all of the chefs in the kitchen who put on an amazing show in the open kitchen and also DELIVER consistently...each time we've been to Marche Moderne. The wine pairing was well selected, though I wish I had asked for a substitute for one white selection. I'm a red wine drinker, and while it would not have been as perfect for the pairing--I just prefer red. OVERALL, always a Michelin experience for a restaurant that INEXPLICABLY does not yet carry a Michelin star. I know you will enjoy. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
I really hate to write this review because my first time coming here was great and the second experience missed expectations. I wont spend much time on this review, but the bottom line is, service was horrendous. I am not a formal food critic, but I am confident that before every course, the waiter/waitress should provide you with the correct dinnerware. 2/5 tasting courses was spending waiting on utensils to eat the food. Not really an ideal situation, especially when these dishes are meant to be consumed right away. There were several items on the tasting menu that were extremely salty; something that was a surprise for us, as a restaurant of this caliber should be triple checked by the kitchen staff. Ambiance was great as usual, but again, the quality of food and the lack of procedure in providing utensils for each dish was extremely disappointing. As much as I want to use an excuse that I might have caught them at a bad night, the reputation that this restaurant has leaves no room for these types of errors. I will be taking a pause from coming here till further notice.
My wife and I enjoyed a sensational dining experience at Marché Moderne! The restaurant offers a refined atmosphere with comfortable well spaced seating. The service is impeccable and memorable. Philippe was a man of magic, offering attentive and detailed service while setting a luxuriously relaxed pace. The tasting menu was tempting but we opted for our own menu selections. The hamachi was certainly a standout as were the braised lamb shank and Icelandic cod. And the heavenly hazelnut macaron panacotta that I would possibly commit crimes for. Honorable mention to the Manhattan a L'Orange. We may have just found a new favorite spot along the coast.
For the value, I would give 3.5 but can't give half stars. I bumped the review because of the amazing service. I do miss the old location in Costa Mesa. Ambience of the location has a French café feel to it. With dim lighting, soft tablecloth, and open kitchen, the place is ideal for a date or an intimate celebration for a small party. I would recommend you get the seating outdoors to the left of the restaurant. Service is fantastic Staff is very knowledgeable. I really appreciate it how informative they were in terms of what was on the menu I felt that the appetizers were better than the entrée. Next time I would just stick with two or three appetizers. In our party of five, three out of five people felt the same way about appetizer being better than the entrées. Overall, I don't think this restaurant offers good value for what they charge. This place is ideal. If you're on a date and you want to press your guest.
