Downtown Caribbean Eats - Newark

Bought a small Oxtail with rice and peas, cabbage and plaintains. This is the most bland oxtails I've ever had in life this far. No taste whatsoever. A heavy emphasis on NO TASTE!Cabbage was soggy and tasteless. The only thing decent in this 20 dollar plate was the plaintains. Oxtail is very expensive as it is. Please hire a chef that is actually from the carribean to cook it.

The owner and Eric are friendly and awesome. I've been here 3 times and the food is truly so delicious! My first dish was the saltfish with cabbage and Good God was it amazing! Today I ordered twice because even the vegetables alone are so good!!Vegetarian options: The vegetarian options are so delicious. My favorites are the cabbage and sauteed vegetables!Dietary restrictions: I'm gluten and dairy intolerant but the owner prepares the food in a way that I have more options without sacrificing flavor.

Ordered here for lunch and got the oxtails …Terrible. Rice over cooked, mushy and disgusting. How do you mess up rice? Plain tains were burnt. Coworker and I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt but immediately felt sick after eating. The j chicken was dry. Cabbage was soupy. Smh And one of the male employees has a bad attitude. They served Four disgusting small oxtails for close to $20. Yuck!!! Believe the reviews and don’t eat here unless you wanna be sick. Weird taste after just one bite. Very disappointing. Food is not fresh at all.Never again i felt like i had hair in my throat after eating. This place needs to be reported.

The food had no flavor. The chicken was dry taste scorched. I ended up throwing the platter in the trash.

I decided to go with the basics, since this is my first time trying a new Caribbean spot. The salmon patty was OK. It was season right and juicy. Veggie patty...... it was only cabbage inside from what I can tell, chicken patty needs something. Last but not least, I got a side of rice and peas with oxtail gravy... I have had better. It's not the worst taste, and it's not the best. Its do able. Needs a little more Caribbean flavor. But I would definitely order the salmon patty agian. And will definitely try other foods as well. Overall food is iightttt.
