I have tried great Indian food in Chicago as well, but the Chana masala, Chicken Curry, Raita, Saag Paneer, and Naan bread at Mehak are exceptional. It seems like the owner has been cooking this type of food for 30 years. This restaurant has become a regular spot for us.
This is my new favorite Indian restaurant. My girlfriend and I went to dinner before a movie, not knowing what to expect, and we were absolutely pleasantly surprised. The decor is humiliating. It's a little restaurant. It felt like someone was eating at home. The focus is on the food. We were served by Ali who also seemed to do cooking. He was pleasant, made suggestions after we told him we wanted to share the dishes, and asked how sharp we like our food (spicking). I ordered a Taj Mahal beer. We started with the Papri Chaat. Ali brought it here and it looked well prepared. He told us to mix it before we eat. It was so delicious, the sauce was so tasteful with the right amount of spices. We ate everything. Then we ordered Bhindi Masala, an okra dish, and Malai Kofta, a cheese and creamy sauce dish. They were both amazing. The okras were well cooked and all vegetables and flavors were well proportional nothing was exaggerated. Just sharp enough. The Malai Kofta was mild and tasty. The texture of the cheese croquettes was really satisfying and the sauce was irresistible. We wanted to save a few to take home, but my girlfriend ate the sauce I had to take away from her so that we could enjoy it later! We accompanied our meals with Naan who were classic and tasty. We will definitely return to Mehak and plan to try everything on the menu. It was a pleasant experience and delicious dinner thanks to Ali.
This is the type of restaurant I seek out when traveling... Small and exclusive with its own charm... And the food!!! If you're a fan of Indian cuisine, you must visit this little gem. I will definitely be returning. The dishes I ordered - Muttar Paneer, Garlic Naan, and a Flying Horse Lager - were cooked to perfection. I even had a delightful chat with the owner, who shared fascinating stories about his home country. If you're an airline employee, don't forget to bring your ID on Mondays and Wednesdays between 3pm and 10pm for a discount. EDIT: I must mention that I walked from the JFK Sheraton Hotel to this restaurant and would do it again! Although the Q10 bus is a quicker option. EDIT (May 20, 2017): After almost three months since my last visit, I was pleasantly surprised that the owner remembered me when I walked in. What a great little place! I traveled over an hour to dine here and it was definitely worth it.
I adore this restaurant. The food is incredible and the owner is fantastic. I highly recommend supporting this hidden gem in the community. I don't mind traveling 40 minutes just to dine here.
Been here a few times. Food is as good as home cooked. Mr. Irfan runs the place and is little quite, but not rude as I see comments here. Lots of decent menu options. Portions are enough for two people. Prices are at par with other restaurants in the area. I like the place, will revisit n try other menu options. Only reason for 4 star is that I seldom give 5 stars unless the place is really extraordinary on all levels. This place is by far great.
