I am confused by the high rating of this restaurant. I found the food to be terrible. My friend and I shared the sticky rice dumplings and the mushroom sloppy. The dumplings had no flavor and were drenched in oil. The sauce that came with them was decent, but they only provided a minuscule amount in a tiny plastic container. The mushroom sloppy was even worse, tasting like heated rubber. Although the bun was decent, overall I did not enjoy this meal.
This is a fantastic small restaurant that serves delicious, homemade dishes with a creative twist. There is ample outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. The food is fresh and incredibly tasty. The service is quick and pleasant.
We’ve eaten here a few times, and everything is delicious. I like the simplicity of the place, and they have a lot of seating outside.
We went in tonight for the first time knowing we wanted to share as many items off the small menu as we could. We got a MUSHROOM SLOPPY and RICE ROLLS from the Chef's specials and then two sides, the STICKY RICE DUMPLING and SALT PEPPER CAULI, it was plenty of food for the two of us and we enjoyed everything we had. My favorite was the SALT PEPPER CAULI crunchy fried cauliflower with a tasty creamy shallot dipping sauce and the RICE ROLLS of the day, which was soft, fat noodle rolls tossed with lots of bright green and delicious Chinese broccoli, black vinegar, and the charred scallions sprinkled on top really added a great texture. I did think there could be a tiny bit more salt but then I love salt maybe more than the average diner (I travel with my own salt in case of emergency! You can sit outside or in, we actually chose inside because it had a cute atmosphere, great music and the guys behind the counter (maybe one was the owner? made us feel welcome and we'll definitely be back! It did not seem at all overpriced to me everything was about $10 or under. Can't beat the location in the LES, after dinner we went right around the corner to an art opening at the ICP.
