When a restaurant only seats about 20 people the amazing staff have time to tend to their guests. A perfect date spot after a fun day in the city. Started off with sparking water and bread with oil for the table. I ordered cauliflower for an appetizer and the mushroom ravioli for dinner. My boyfriend ordered the octopus for an appetizer and the duck for dinner. All of the dishes were delicious! If you are looking to splurge on a nice dinner the Gentleman Farmer will deliver and they have something for everyone!
This is the absolute best meal I've ever had. The atmosphere was charming, old fashion, and rustic. So cozy and beautiful. Very romantic vibe. The lamb was to die for. Filled with flavor and done perfectly. Unbelievably good
Lovely small restaurant in the lower east side. Small as in it's quite a feat to get to your table with a thick coat on. I walked right passed the entrance as it's not very obvious at night time. There are no bright signs that indicate where the restaurant is. The waiter was incredibly friendly and the service was great. The food was AMAZING. I would definitely go back. Some appetisers are small, like the beet salad (it's really just a few pieces of beets), but the scallops are quite large. Definitely worth the price. However the reason I only put 3 stars is that they overcharged us for a course. I ordered the octopus and on the menu is said $13 but after I left the restaurant I realized they charged me $16. It was my fault that I did not examine the bill earlier. But for a small restaurant that can fit less than 40 people, you'd think they wouldn't make careless mistakes likes this. Needless to say I will be returning for the food but scrutinise the bill every time.
Dear reviewer Aaron F. above, Many many thanks to you for standing up and speaking out against the treatment we experienced and you witnessed at this restaurant. My husband and I are the mixed-race couple that was 3 times refused a table in the main section of the restaurant. We later learned that the table we were made to stay in is typically set aside for walk-ins. We had a reservation. And since my husband had alerted them by phone that it was my birthday, they had even prepared a complementary dessert. But when we walked in, they suddenly ceased to be accommodating. Several tables for two remained empty during our entire dinner, for over an hour, one of which was probably our reserved table, while we were made to sit separately from the other guests. They never provided a reason for why we could not move to a different table and, as time passed, it became clearer what what was happening. It was appalling behavior. We skipped dessert and will never go back.
I would eat here every night if I could. Okay maybe not, however, the food here is so delicious. I've come back consistently over the past 4 years since discovering this nook. I've also sent close friends and family members and no one has been disappointed. Great wine, even better food and the nicest staff. Seriously, the game here is amazing. I always go for the rabbit, but everything is to die for! It's super tiny though, so not the best for big parties unless you want to rent out the whole place.
