Country, home cooked food at its best. This place is great. The food tastes just like grandmas. One of Nashville's best kept secrets.
Ace food critic Jimmy Changa was sent to Arnold's Country Kitchen today for his review of Friday's Lunch Special. They're fake news. No one from this publication sent him. It was lunchtime, he was hungry and had a pencil he had not eaten. Here's his report. The first thing to catch my eye was a clothes stand I didn't see because I was so hungry that my eyes pour. So blind, I was forced to read the menu by the Braille technique. I was crashed three times by women standing in line when I confused them with the menu board. I apologized profusely, and soon we're all right. They proved to be tourists from the frozen Thudra of Yankee Land and had never been with Arnold. Also tourists from the frozen tundra of Yankee Land know where to go in Nashville for a great lunch. His Yankees, they had no knowledge of good house style south kitchen, or even good food for this matter. They asked us what to order. I was crashed a few more times when I tried to explain it to them with my Braille technique, which I suspect is not appreciated in Yankee Land. I told them that Arnold's famous for the Bratbeef, so thin it just cut one side. The fried green tomatoes should die for, the mac-n-cheese is fantabulous, as the green beans cooked with bacon and other secret southern influence. You can't go wrong with the fired okra, but unfortunately it wasn't on the menu that day. Top it off with a few pecan pie, banana pudding, or for the adventurous soul, the hot pepper chocolate cake, and you will be the envy of your Yankee neighbor when you go home and they can move with stories, how fast a long line, unlike Walmart, where 80,472 people are in line for the only register opened. They were so happy with my suggestions that they invited me to their hotel room to practice their Braille technique! It just doesn't get better than eating at Arnold!
This is one of the 10 best in Nashville and best voted Mac and Cheese! I brought friends and family and it's always worth it. The catfish with green and sides as well as delicious pepper chocolate cake brings me back.
It is an understatement that Arnolds is a permanent symbol of Nashville. I have never experienced a “Meat--3” place that makes it better. Opens at 11 a.m., and a line forms a bit ahead of Noon, which lasts until closing (2-ish). Totally worth it.
