Charlie's Art Deco Seafood Steak Napier

Recommended by a friend, we were not disappointed. This restaurant truly feels like a trip back in time. The decor is reminiscent of the Charlie Chaplin era, the host is charming, and the food is fantastic. We arrived early without a reservation, which allowed us to take advantage of the early bird menu. My seafood chowder was delicious, and the steak was so tender that I could have cut it with a butter knife. Located upstairs above shops at 80A Upper Emerson Street, it’s easy to miss, so keep an eye out for it!

I tried the early bird special, and it was an excellent value for the price. The woman managing the front of house did an impressive job on her own, while I assume her husband was in the kitchen preparing the meals, which were served promptly. The steak was cooked to perfection, just the right medium-rare, and the salad was dressed with a delicious vinaigrette.

The food was beautiful and the lamb was flavorful. The Oscar lamb specialty was excellent. The tiramisu dessert was unique. Overall, you receive good value for your money, though the wait time can be quite long.
