This is probably the best Indian food I've ever had. I am completely hooked now, this restaurant is my go-to in Mount Beauty! I have brought friends here and none of us could stop thinking about the food for days afterwards. The service is excellent and the couple who own and run the restaurant do a great job keeping up with the demand - there always seems to be a stream of takeaway orders going out the door. The prices feel very reasonable to me as well. I can go in and order enough food for two people, along with wine, and somehow it always comes to under $50.
Bombay Velvet at Mt Beauty on the way to Falls Creek is the perfect place to enjoy delicious Indian cuisine, especially in a snowy setting. I highly recommend it. The service was outstanding and the food, especially the chicken tikka, was really excellent. Be sure to try the tea as well.
Bombay Velvet not only serves delicious food, but it is also one of the few Indian restaurants that caters to vegans by offering many vegetarian options. The service is quick, although the family-run team may not be overly friendly. The prices are very reasonable and the portions of their traditional dishes are generous. If you are in Mount Beauty or the surrounding area, I highly recommend stopping by for a tasty and filling meal, as they offer both dine-in and takeout services.
We had made a reservation, but arrived early, shortly before 6 pm, and the restaurant was empty. The server was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about vegan options, although there were few choices available. We decided to try two of the three vegan entrees - the aloo gobhi and the auberginemasala, both priced at $16.50 each. We were pleasantly surprised to find that both the level 4 and garlic naan ($4.50 each) were vegan, so we ordered those along with the green pea pulao ($5). The curries were good, though not exceptional, with the flower cabbage being beautifully seasoned and the aubergine pleasantly oily. We had asked for a medium spiciness level, but realized we could have handled a hotter spice level. I wished they offered a dipping sauce like dal for the naan, and wondered if they would have accommodated a request for dal makhani. I enjoyed the peaceful and beautiful surroundings of Mount Beauty compared to the bustling tourist hotspot of Bright nearby.
