I'm from the south so I love fried chicken so that's what I ordered. It was a bit dry but there was gravy on the mashed potatoes to help with that. It was really crispy on the outside, which I like, and seasoned well. I guess that's one difference between Indiana chicken and Mississippi chicken, I'm used to more black pepper in the seasoning but it was still good. The potatoes and corn made it feel like comfort food. I will be back for lunch, I'm sure, and I want to visit for after work beverages since apparently they don't close until 3 am.
First let me say that this place is blessing in a town where there is not much to choose from. I visited this place based on the recommendations of some locals. Outside appearance is up to date. You can tell that the place is cared for. Parking area was well lit. Entered and was welcomed by the bartender. As it was just me I took a seat at the bar. Drink order was quickly taken and given an opportunity to read the menu. I ordered the evening special. It was ok nothing great where I would have to have it again! Fish was ok, beans and potato salad were probably from a box. Hush puppies were very dry and not fresh. I lived and worked in the South and know what a good tasting hush puppy taste like. Place was clean and well lit. I would not hesitate to visit this place again or recommend it to others.
There is not a lot to choose from in Mount Vernon, and I feel that we are lucky to have Koodie Hoos as one of our options. They do have karaoke on some weekends, and their drink prices are about average from anywhere else I've been. Their food is delicious! I'm a fan on the Koodie hot burger, which comes wth grilled onions and pepper jack cheese. They also offer a daily lunch special. Many options, from your every day bar food, to delicious steaks and chops.
There is precious little to choose from in Mt. Vernon so it makes you appreciate the few offerings even more. The bar had locals when we arrived at 3:30 in the afternoon. They were friendly. We sat in the adjacent diner like seating area. Had frog legs, fried shrimp. Fiancée had the chicken breasts. Overall it was above average. The people made it nicer. Discovered that the wife of the owner is from Texas. That explains the Texas toast, shiner bock beer, and frog legs! The towns new water front area is very nice. A stroll along it and a diner at koodie hoos is quite pleasant.
The food is excellent far superior to the average local bar. The only critique I have is that the smoking is too strong...wish they would go non smoking. We usually order our dinners to carry out. Prime rib, shrimp, kabobs ...never had a bad meal...only too much smoke.
