Unfortunately my experiences from the a la carte menu have been pretty lousy. Stick to the simple fare and you won't be disappointed.
Thursday night is Schnitzel night. You get a $9 schnitzel and then you can buy a $9 movie ticket. Considering a ticket to the movies normally costs $16, it's pretty good value for money. Oh and you also get use of the unlimited salad bar which has a pretty good choice. I would highly recommend this place on a Thursday, it's a cheap night out :
Really disappointed to say that our first visit to the Auchendarroch Tavern will certainly be our last! Despite reading other negative reviews, we booked a table tonight hoping to have a sparkling experience as their drinks coasters profess, however we didn 't see even a semblance of a glimmer of a good time due to the service we received. What was supposed to be a pleasant treat of an evening for me and my young children turned out to be pitiful. After waiting long enough for our meals we momentarily left to visit the rest rooms. I ensured our cutlery was left to the sides to indicate we were still eating, with the majority of mine and my daughter 's meals still remaining I 'd eaten less than 1/5 of a schnitzel. In the very short time we were in the bathroom someone clearly didn 't heed the advice of our waitress to not clear that table 's meals and took our dinners away. Not wanting to have to wait for yet another set of meals to be cooked and brought out (we 'd already been there an hour! I requested that I speak to the manager. The manager suggested new meals. I declined. My children need their beds. He suggested a free meal on our next visit . I declined, as there won 't be one (we weren 't satisfied with the standard of the small amount of the meals we 'd eaten enough to negate a second visit anyhow, regardless if free or not . I expressed that given hospitality workers should know that cutlery correct position due to the laws of etiquette indicate we were not done, and that the waitress had instructed staff we 'd be returning, that in this instance he should allow us this visit gratis, and let us be on our way. The manager I dealt with Steve Skinner was abrasive and did not appear to be genuinely empathetic, and even had the audacity to suggest we still pay for some menu items despite that our lovely night out was ruined, and 2/3 of the party were going home unfed! I advised the manager, stating I 'd not be paying for the evening 's meal as I did not feel (under consumer rights we were liable to pay for goods/service we did not receive. He insisted I left my name and contact details (not sure why? Am I to anticipate an invoice in the post, or SAPOL on my doorstep? Or goons sent after me to collect the $5 for a barely cold beer he was whinging about on the way out? and I promptly left with my children. If I could give a minus star rating, I would. Thus our night now concludes with my daughter and I eating baked beans on toast, and a sour taste in our mouths from an undeniably poor experience at this venue. In my opinion the manager wouldn 't know hospitality, the importance of customer retention or the impact of word of mouth on a the reputation of a business if he stepped in it. I was extremely diplomatic and eloquent in trying to reach a resolution; despite this the management couldn 't be reasonable. Customer service is a two way street , for which this venue apparently has hit a dead end...
