They had a brisket sandwich on special today. It's one of those sink your teeth into sandwiches and really good. Had a vanilla malt to go. It was made by the owner, she had one arm in a contraption to limit movement. Even with that handicap she still made the best drink it with a straw that I've had it a long time.
For my son's upcoming 3rd birthday, I wanted to make the week special. Unfortunately, his playgroup was canceled on Tuesday morning, so we were the first to arrive for lunch at this restaurant. We requested to sit in the back room, understanding that kids can be a little rambunctious. After we were seated, we ordered fried mushrooms, which were prominently advertised. As a server, manager, and bartender with over 20 years in the restaurant industry, I consider myself somewhat picky, but I also believe in being understanding. Unfortunately, my experience started poorly: after we were seated, we had to ask for menus. Within 10 minutes, we were asked four times what we wanted. Just before we placed our order, we were assigned a different server. Given that it was a transitional time between breakfast and lunch, we decided to order two more appetizers to share along with the mushrooms and a kids' meal. The new server informed us that the price for wings was changing from $4.99 for 6 pieces to $8.49, but since the menu hadn’t been updated yet, we were able to get them for the old price. Unfortunately, the wings we received were not wings at all, but rather small pieces of popcorn chicken, along with some poppers. The quality of the food was mediocre, and I truly can't imagine how such a price increase could be justified. What really soured the experience for me was the service. We were informed about the price change later on, and after our food was served, we weren’t offered individual plates for the appetizers. No one checked on us after our food was dropped off. There were no follow-up questions like, “Is everything okay?” or “Do you need anything else?” In fact, I had to wait for over seven minutes just to get anyone’s attention at the front to receive the check. My son, whose favorite food is hot dogs, was served a dish that was shriveled and burnt. I couldn't even send it back since no one came to check on us. To top it off, we needed drink refills. I could go on, but it’s just disheartening. I was willing to pay a premium for a nice meal and decent service, but this experience has made it clear that I need to find another place to dine.
I want to be upfront: I haven't dined at this restaurant yet. If it opens up, I’ll provide a genuine review then. I’m giving it one star because I drove there specifically to eat, but the information on their hours was inaccurate, and when I arrived, no one was there. There wasn’t even a sign indicating that they were closed for good. I really hope I get the chance to try this BBQ place in the future.
The pork was delicious. I wish they had an online menu and offered mac and cheese.
