However, at the back of the store, there is a charming little café. My mother assured me that they serve delicious homemade food, and she was right. I ordered a cup of tea along with a bacon and cheese melt with home fries, both of which were delicious. My tea was served in a lovely little teapot with a beautiful tea cup and saucer. My mother mentioned that everything in the store is for sale, even the salt and pepper shakers. I fell in love with the tea cup and saucer and decided to purchase them for just $5. What a steal! I can't wait to return for some homemade pies, which also looked appetizing.
I inquired with the owner of the store/cafe about carrying my healing meditation and hypnosis CDs, and while she agreed, her husband quickly ushered me out of the store. I had been on the verge of sitting down to eat before this happened. Despite being a polite and educated person, I found his behavior to be aggressive and unnecessary. My family and I decided not to return to the establishment, even though we had been regular customers. We eventually moved away, but I had intended to file a complaint regarding his intimidating actions. I understand that some men may feel threatened by their wives gaining confidence through meditation and self-help products, but I was only looking to provide products on a commission basis. The man in question was tall, had grey hair, and was a smoker. If the couple are no longer the owners, please disregard this review. However, if he is still present, I stand by my experience and others should be aware. I did not confront his behavior at the time due to being caught off guard and new in business, but I am not afraid to speak out now.
Pleasant, HOMEY Atmosphere, Jolly server! Great Food! Also enjoyed browsing in the Gift shop after our meal!
The café is located in the strip mall in Morrisburg (there's only one, so it's easy to find). From the outside, and when you walk in, it looks like a cute antique shop. Keep walking to the back of the store and surprise! It's a restaurant! We went there for breakfast because it came highly recommended by some locals, honestly had it not, we would have turned around and left without eating. I'm so glad we stayed! So, before you decide to eat there, just know what to expect...1. Good food!2. An older run-down atmosphere in need of repairs/updates (look past it).3. A community feel; it's not uncommon to sit with strangers at the same table or for everyone in the restaurant to end up talking to each other. 4. A laid back environment....It's nothing to see the patrons lending a hand to serve coffee of bus tables, especially if they're busy or short handed.5. Sarcasm by the bucket full! The waitress has an amazing, dry sense of humour and yes, she IS joking! my favourite waitress quote was "if you want fast, McDonalds is down the street" lol! It was definitely a very different, small town experience. It was fun, laid back, not rushed and totally hilarious (once we established that the waitress wasn't just crusty).Bottom line, if you aren't in a rush and are ok with the possibility of any, or all of the above, GO! Maybe we'll see you there!!
As a visitor to Canada, I am used the regular coffee chains and restaurants. How delightful to find somewhere so different, so much fun and truly unforgettable. entering into the shop area at the front, the array of antiques and curios is amazing and all the walls are covered in art works, both old and new. More delights are to be found further into the shop where there are a collection of colourful tables. The staff are really friendly, helpful and very amusing, the atmosphere relaxed and the food really excellent. The whole experience was both surreal and enjoyable at the same time, rather like Alice in Wonderland. I hope it never changes and I will be back on my next visit.
