We went to Imperio, a charming Portugese grill, to celebrate a friend's birthday. The restaurant is nestled in a residential neighbourhood in the Villeray borough, within walking distance of the Jarry metro station. Given the size of our group (over 25 people), we were offered a two course table d'hôte menu. The appetizer consisted of a shared platter of 1) garlicky sautéed shrimp, 2) slices of spicy chorizo sausage and 3) battered, fried calamari. My husband and I decided to share two of the entrée options, the paella and the mixed meat platter. The paella was a feast for the eyes and quite delicious. The golden yellow rice and peas were topped with a generous portion of clam, mussels, shrimp, and squid, beautifully seasoned and flavoured, a true delight. On the meat platter was an assortment of grilled meats: chicken leg and thigh, quail leg and thigh, chorizo, ribs and pork chop accompanied by french fries and green salad. This was a hefty portion, part of which we took home for lunch for the next day. The ambiance at Imperio is warm and welcoming, the decor simple and inviting, the service friendly and courteous and the price reasonable.
I found this restaurant thru an Internet search and am glad I did! Amazing Portuguese food at great prices. We will be back!
The menu offers a variety of Portuguese dishes, and we decided to try the fried calamari as an appetizer, followed by grilled sardines and charcoal chicken. The food was delivered quickly and was delicious. The sardines were melt-in-your-mouth tender, while the charcoal chicken was juicy and perfectly spiced. The accompaniments, including fries and salad, were also tasty. Overall, our experience at this restaurant was excellent. The staff made us feel like valued customers, and the food was top-notch. We left with smiles on our faces and will definitely be returning. If you're looking for classic Portuguese cuisine at an affordable price, this hidden gem is worth a visit.
My wife and I have been coming here for a while. It could be a stop on the way home with our shopping cart or an in important occasion. It's always a great time. The atmosphere is wonderful - warm, friendly, and unpretentious, yet quietly and understatedly smart. The food could justify a bit of attitude but they keep far away from that here. This is the place. While we could rave about the octopus, the pork and clams, or even a pulled pork sandwich, go for the paella on Saturday nights. Better to order it ahead of time when you book a table.
