Cafe-Restaurante Lumumba - Monsaraz

Four of us hungry tourists, completey new to the area, arrived at this beuatiful mountan village at around 2pm. We thought it better to have lunch first then tour the village later. Few other tourists were visible and most restaurants seemed closed. For no apparent reason, one of us chose this eating place with a name which admittedly did not impress me I am happy to report that we had a thoroughly lovely meal including a nice soup,, main course, desert, wine and coffee. Very reasonably priced (less than 100 euros for 4 pers) and the service was efficient, even though the waiter did not speak English and the menu was written in the local language only. The lamb stew was delicious as, I was told, was the veal tongue (which I would not eat myself though). Nothing to complain about. Every reason to recommend to others who might venture up to this beautiiful location..

Lumumumba was the first meal in the magical walled castle town of Monsaraz. We came for a local Alentejo dinner (meat! and enjoyed the pork costeletas (Ribs and grilled beef). Both dishes were accompanied with homemade chips and a small mixed salad. Local cuisine was very good. We ate indoors because the night was cool, but the restaurant also offers an outdoor terrace. A beautiful place to enjoy a well-prepared local meal, and within the city walls.

¡Una agradable sorpresa! Habíamos reservado explanada en otro restaurante en monsaraz, cuando llegamos, encontramos que nos habían reservado dentro del local. No era lo que queríamos, así que fuimos, comenzamos a buscar otro lugar y estaban todos con suficiente gente. Tenemos que lumumba, preguntarnos si había espacio en la terraza, nos dijeron que sí y entramos. A su llegada tuvimos la suerte de que un matrimonio que estaba en una mesa contra el tren se iba, por lo que tenemos el mejor lugar en la terraza. Nos trajeron pan, aceitunas, queso. Me comí la lengua (hace mucho tiempo que no lo hice) y mi esposa de bacalao. Bebimos dos cervezas de media cerveza. los platos muy bien servidos con buenas dosis abundantes con buena guarnición y sabroso. muy buena atención y pagamos por los dos, poco más de 30 euros! Ya dejamos el horario para nuestra próxima visita a Monsaraz. el slob que sirvió la terraza muy agradable. lugar muy recomendado.

Monsaraz is a small town just east of Evora. The appeal of the town is the small family style pottery plants and shops where you can see pottery made and hand painted. However when one is hungry and see only small fast food or lunch shops you MUST find Lumumba for lunch or dinner.....lunch 1:30 to 3:00 and dinner about 8:00 which is typical in Portugal. IF you are a meat eater you must have the Veal Filet....medium to rare which beyond your best dream. Here in a remote part of Portugal in the middle of the wine country you will find a little piece of heaven.....Enjoy

At Lumumba you can enjoy the rustic local cuisine and the marvellous panoramic view from Monsaraz, -at a very reasonable price!
