Ashy's Cafe and Restaurant - Monash

Tasty food, fresh ingredients and friendly staff! I'll be a regular for this place :D

We took two friends in their 80's for lunch and could hardly have been more satisfied with our food. The restaurant is Afghan and the choice of dishes is extensive. The waiter who is probably the owner was really helpful with choices and went out of his way to explain what each contained. Food arrived quickly, was really generous in its quantity, had great flavour and was really something of a surprise. It is not fine dining but it is honest, well presented, flavoursome food, served with pride and sold at incredibly low prices for the amount you get. The room is a bit sterile but the food compensates!

This is a gem of a Restaurant! You'll be treated to a wide range of Traditional Afghani food. A must is the "Mantu", the Traditional Afghani Mince Dumplings. For your mains try the amazing Kebabs,the Kabuli Pallow ( Slow cooked Lamb Shank). My favorite is the Borani Banjan, which is fried eggplant with a fresh tomato and garlic sauce.The choice are never ending. Ashy's has been rate in the "Top 20 Cheap Eats in Melbourne", by the Age Newspaper 18/7/2017. It's also a BYO, Beer and Wine Restaurant, making it even more affordable. Ashy's also supports the local Artists in the area. Come a discover some amazing variety of local art at an affordable price. This is a must. You'll be back for more!!!

We were in Ashburton for other reasons Sunday lunchtime and noticed this place served Afghani food. It looks like a normal cafe from the outside and does serve a normal breakfast and cake selections. The lunch and dinner menu offer a range of Afghani dishes. We ordered Chicken Kabuli Pallow ($13.50) and the Mantu lamb dumplings ($10.90). Both were quite tasty. They had spice but it was mild with no heat. The portions were fine and it was a good selection to have shared - they brought two plates and we served ourselves.The lunch selection is less extensive than the dinner offerings but the prices are significantly less.The service was slow on the Sunday but we were in no hurry. It was a pleasant and relaxing lunch.
