Verona Cucina Italiana - Modesto

Always love the exquisite service and wonderful food here at Verona’s. My husband had the swordfish special and said it was perfect and I had my family-favorite Vitelli Marsala which my father would have adored. Jack had the pepperoni pizza and, as always, it was great. We love our local family restaurant so much!

Server Maria was attentive and helpful but didn’t hover. Salads were excellent, as were sauces. Chicken piccata was tasty but a bit dry. They had run out of strawberries for my husband’s salad and substituted cranberries, which was fine. Husband ordered tiramisu for dessert but they were out, although it was early in the evening. Husband’s crème brûlée was excellent and my cheesecake was good.

The dining experience was wonderful. We started with an appetizer, beef carpaccio, which was tasty. Then we had soup and salad, and again each one had a burst of flavor. Our main courses were simple but done well. Ended the night with the zabaglione and the creme brûlée. Each was very delicious. All the dishes were plated beautifully. This is the best Italian cuisine in the northern San Joaquin Valley.

We frequent Verona’s for special occasions. The food quality and atmosphere are consistently good, however our most recent visit was somewhat disappointing on several levels. We were asked if we wanted a bread basket only to be charged for it without mention. We had to ask for the night’s specials (there were numerous). We ordered one salad and specifically stated we did not want it split only to have it arrive split and received a split plate charge. We both ordered similar pasta dishes, one arrived with an extremely small amount of pasta compared to the other. We were asked during the reservation process if this was a special occasion and we indicated it was (anniversary). Well managed restaurants will typically honor the occasion in some form or fashion. In this case, nothing. Why ask if you’re if you’re going to ignore the special occasion Too many missteps for a restaurant of this quality and reputation.

Verona's is my go to restaurant in Modesto. We love the food here.
