This was followed by a beautifully silky pasta filled with lightly smoked pork. Unfortunately, the spit roast lamb was finished by the time we came to have our main course but instead we were served wonderfully moist, pink lamb cutlets. Next came cheeses, both Pecorino, one from Sardinia and one from the mainland, both totally different in taste and texture. The Grand Finale was dessert, to to share, a tangy lemon meringue and a moist chocolate sponge with a chocolate, chilli filling. All in all an absolutely fabulous meal, washed down with a bottle of Sardinian wine. We will be back!
I reckon this is a true hidden gem in the area. The shop-front is pretty small and unassuming, but the restaurant goes pretty far back and has a big open area at the back. There's no menu... the chef just cooks whatever he feels like. But it's really good food. Definitely rate.
I met a friend here for lunch - he's a local, quite a "foody" and suggested it. The room is small, thin and high ceilinged with linen on the tables and art everywhere. we were rather cosy at the table by the window. However, the real star of the show was the wonderful Sardinian/Italian food. We are two courses - I had seafood (oyster, octopus and tuna) to start followed by shoulder of rabbit - picked off a short menu. Simply put, this was seriously good cooking - it would hold its own anywhere. The service was excellent as well - I rushed and helpful. If you are in South Yarra and have time to enjoy a special meal I would thoroughly recommend it.
Have been going to Da Noi for 15 years. Over the years I have found this restaurant to be hit and miss. Sometimes excellent, sometimes ordinary and not worth the cost or risk.Last Saturday night was one of those ordinary occasions. Had the chef's 'feed me' option - and not one of the dishes served was special, several were disappointing. Topped off with a $135 bottle of average wine and a $180 per head bill. I had several first time visitors to Da Noi with me who were all disappointed. I'm not sure I will be able to justify coming back.....
This is a Sardinian restaurant serving fusion food. I don't really know what that means but since we live a block away and it looked interesting we gave it a go.The food is interesting, well done and small. It's also expensive. I didn't mind since we were looking for a fine dining night out to celebrate something but when we finished I kind of wanted a burger. The staff were largely indifferent to our existence. Except when when didn't order wine. Then they hassled us. Food came out quickly and as I said, was nicely prepared but small. All in all, Da Noi was competent but not mind-blowing.
