Safeway Liquor - McKinleyville

It not bad...for a small town Safeway. And most of the employees are very nice.

Kinda exspensive but we love the Safeway bread. Can't seem to walk past it. Employees are very helpful and always trying to lighten my load because I tend to shop more than I do or expected. Always helpful to load my groceries and get me safe to my car or ride. And I'm grateful.

I really enjoy the produce department at Safeway! The bakery and deli are fantastic as well. However, the staff could use some improvement; they don't appear very helpful, and some even seem to begrudge customers who ask for assistance. Apart from that, it feels similar to other grocery stores in the area.

The store is clean, has ample parking, offers plenty of sales, and the produce is of high quality with well-stocked shelves. However, my experience was marred by the rudeness of a deli worker. I requested ranch dressing to go with my fresh salad, which is prepackaged in the store, but instead received a thick ranch meant for dipping. When I asked for salad dressing instead, I was met with an unfriendly and irritated response: "Ranch is ranch." The worker even rolled his eyes before walking away. Because of this encounter, I won’t be ordering anything from the deli at this particular Safeway location again!

It seems like this Safeway has really declined over the past couple of years, particularly since the pandemic. My biggest issue is with the produce—it's truly awful! Be careful when shopping in that section. First, the prices are way too high, and second, the freshness is a major problem. I’ve noticed that when I put produce in my refrigerator, it spoils within just a couple of days. In fact, for the past year, most of the fruits and vegetables I've bought here have gone bad extremely quickly. Additionally, their selection of ethnic foods is quite limited. There are few options for hot sauces, Mexican herbs, and spices, and Asian ingredients are scarce as well, which is surprising for Humboldt County. Overall, this Safeway just doesn't impress me.
