El Gordo Mexican - McHenry

Been there 3 times by myself and waited for someone to come to the table to take my order, or to seat me when I entered. All 3 times I was there during the week and around lunch time as they weren't that busy! First time I had to ask for silverware to eatmy food with as they never brought any to the table when I was first seated. Lack of help is the main reason as they don't havepeople to wait on the tables. The food is really good and is the best, and prices are very good.

We ordered guacamole. It was bland. The chips were stale. The server left them and replied they all are. My shrimp fajitas were dreadful .The shrimp was tasteless and overcooked. The onions and peppers were bland No seasoning . Tortillas were old. BisSteak Ala Mexicana was also bland. It really was the worst Mexican food I have ever had.

Overall, my experience was positive, but the chips didn't quite hit the mark. They weren't fried at the right temperature, resulting in them being soggy and tough. I know they're under new management, so I'm hopeful they'll improve on that. The staff, however, were incredibly friendly and very helpful. I’ll definitely return!

I ordered a chicken burrito that I thought was excellent and really suited my taste. As an appetizer, I got some steak quesadillas, while my partner chose steak tacos. Unfortunately, the steak in the tacos was quite greasy and had a ground beef texture. They didn’t enjoy their dish at all.

The service was exceptional, as always! I must say, the food was absolutely delicious! The portion sizes are generous, easily enough to share between two people. Their Margaritas are incredible! The atmosphere is really pleasant, and they also offer a patio for outdoor dining. There’s ample parking available, including handicap spaces right at the front entrance. The food is authentically prepared, and it’s becoming rare to find places like this. I would highly recommend it to everyone! Definitely a 5-star experience!
