Don Sol Mexican Grill - Mattoon

Love the different types of meat and shrimp is always a must for me. I want more salsa, but the food was still good.

The food is enjoyable, with great flavors and a pleasant aroma. I found the Risotto to be nice, and the beans were okay, but I felt it was a bit pricey. I ordered the Bistec a la Mexicana, not a buffet. I also ordered a Torta, which had a good taste, but it wasn't particularly impressive. I noticed it came with French fries, which I don’t remember ordering. Overall, I didn't expect the Torta to come with fries.

We've been here since the opening. The first thing they do is take your drinks choice thing to bring your free salsa and tortilla chips so that you can start something. Your order is usually brought to you within 15 minutes or so your lunch / or dinner. We've tried so many different things. Tampico shrimp is the choice of my husband and I like the chicken Fajitas as my favorite choice.

This restaurant sets the gold standard for Mexican cuisine in Mattoon. The service is friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed yet inviting, and the food is excellent. I appreciate that the place feels well-maintained and comfortable. While they offer similar deals to other Mexican restaurants in the area, they execute them well and at a reasonable price.

This place is authentic Mexican cuisine. They have an extensive menu that would cover the pickiest eater, even vegetarians and vegans. The seating is comfortable bench/booth that is roomy on both sides of the table. You get warm chips and salsa as soon as you are seated. I always ask for a bowl of white cheese for the chips, it's an additional cost, but tasty! The meal is served in a reasonable amount of time after ordering, and the check comes in a reasonable amount of time too, so you're not waiting for it but you aren't feeling rushed either.
