Mocafe - Mae Rai

What an adorable little restaurant! Built to look like it was set up in a garage, the furniture is made with a machine-shop like design. I’ll get the downsides out of the way real quick; the place needs a couple repairs, the stairs seem a little flimsy as a chubby guy, and I’m still adjusting to Thailand’s bathrooms. Good enough. Now on with the good stuff. I love this place! The Industrial architecture combined with the menu options and how they are presented on the plate down to the plates the food is presented on all combine to what I felt to be a comfortably classic rock experience. Everything fits together very well and is inviting in a cafe lover meets motorcycle mechanic sort of a way. If you’re in Chiang Rai and you want some good food in a place that feels like fixing a bike with dad while mom whips up a great meal, come spend some Baht here and bring friends. Try the smoked salmon pizza. Two slices are missing in my photo because it smelled so good I had to eat it!

So, so glad that we chanced upon this hidden gem. The store front sells drinks and has a huge drinks menu home made cakes. The restaurant is behind the store front down the driveway. They have an extensive menu that has many fusion dishes. I was apprehensive that they would be able to make such a range of dishes well but everything was delicious. The seafood was so fresh and chicken wings, ribs and other meat was all incredibly juicy cooked to perfection. The cakes were delicious, my favourite was the carrot cake, the matcha cheesecake chocolate mouse cake were very mild. The brown sugar coffee frappe perfectly balanced bitter and sweet. There’s a small garden and well kept toilets. There are multiple eating areas the decor was beautiful. The waitresses were so lovely and brought out a fan for us when we were seated. More expensive than other restaurants but overall an excellent experience.

Chic cafe, the best, any dish is so delicious that it gives you goosebumps. The staff is also very friendly. In the backyard there is a playground for children, with a bungee, a swing, a trampoline, the children are delighted.
