The tiny place is clogged with tables next to each and regulars arrive constantly. So expect close neighbors and a crowded environment. But the service was great from the small staff and the food phenomenal. We had the restaurant house red wine which was very good and had a slab of local cheese recommended by the server that was off menu but remarkably good. The home-made bread and olives were fresh and tasty. For our entree, we chose the beef for two that could not have been better seasoned and was succulent. At the end of our meal, a regular (who turned out to be the daughter of the owner and granddaughter of the chef) sat next to me to eat and we chatted. She explained the family nature of the business and how the restaurant has so many local regulars. Perhaps that is why eating here felt like having a Sunday meal at a relative's home. It was warm and tasty and lovingly prepared. It is such a great restaurant.
Our cycling guide recommended this place to us as an authentic, family run Portuguese restaurant. It did not disappoint! We sat down and asked the proprietor to tell us what to order, and he made excellent recommendations for the entire meal. Our entire family, including a 12 year old who only wanted to eat cheeseburgers on the trip, loved it! One of the favorites was the fried fish, pictured. Highly recommend, and if we ever find ourselves in Lisbon again, we’ll definitely be back.
We’ve been coming to Lisboa for many years so every time we get a suggestion we do our utmost to try that restaurant. This way we discovered some great places but also had some big disappointments. O Cardoso do Estrela de Ouro is the real deal. We heard about this restaurant only last week but it was an amazing experience. This is a great family run restaurant and the service is truly honestly Portuguese. The restaurant only has more or less 8 tables but it’s worth coming here. We sat next to a wel dressed elderly Portuguese couple and it was great to see their sophisticated table manners. Service is very friendly and the food is tasty. We ate a bitoque com ovo and it was excellent. We’ll be coming back!
