My friend and I ordered the pan-seared chicken served with mashed potatoes and greens. When our dishes arrived, everything was served in a large bowl with gravy poured over the top. Immediately, we were concerned about the gravy, which had a vinegary, teriyaki-like smell. Since it wasn't mentioned in the menu description, we asked our server about it. Unfortunately, he was quite dismissive and assured us it was safe to eat. My friend and I remained uneasy about the situation. I took a few more bites than she did, but neither of us ate much. The food was served lukewarm, and the mashed potatoes had a gummy or gluey texture—likely from being over-mixed or possibly made with too much starch. My friend wisely decided not to eat any of her meal, while I unfortunately ended up feeling very sick. This was the first time since moving to the UK that I received inaccurate information regarding food safety from restaurant staff. I can’t speak to how the other dishes measure up, and while they do offer gluten-free fish and chips, I’m unsure if they use a separate fryer. It's possible we visited on an off day since my local celiac friend has dined there multiple times without issue. I might give it another try and update my review, but first, I need to recover from this experience. If you choose to dine here—and I must say, the atmosphere and outdoor seating are quite lovely—make sure to get confirmation about any food from the kitchen staff. If the waitstaff is insistent that everything is fine, request explicit verification from the kitchen.
The food was delightful, with plenty of gluten-free options available, all clearly labeled.
Nice food, Gf options everywhere and marked clearly.
