Pros Good food, large portions, reasonable prices. Cons Sloooooow service! 1st time visit, but my parents have been there several times which was the reason I decided to go there. Made a reservation days prior for a Saturday lunch. We were only 1 of 2 couples there in the dining room! For a lunch time on the weekend and THEE only other couple there to eat, it was waiting at each step! Seating, drinks, ordering and paying the check! And when I say waiting, we're talking 10min at each step, minimum! How long does it take to get drinks? One lady sat us and took our drink order, just unsweetened teas, which I think they brew there, but that took 10min at least to get. 10min later a different lady took our meal order, a Seafood Salad and a Italian Steak Sandwich Salad. Both were very hearty and well made! Filing and delicious. While eating, it looked like we were interrupting the lady, who sat us and took our drink order, cleaning the dining room we were in. For nobody really there, cleaning the dining room while we're eating?! Chairs in the isles, cleaners left on tables as the lady left several times to do whatever else, not to mention texting and taking calls on her cell phone. Just seemed like for an upscale B&B, she would have been more focused on customer service or work in general. Our entire time there, I think she got one table cleaned and ready for the next customer as she was jumping from table to table. Paying took a while too! I would go back, but none too soon. The food was good, just VERY slow service.
I have had breakfast and lunch at Inn 422 several times and was anxious to try dinner. We were seated and placed our drink orders and then our meal orders shortly after our drinks arrived. I ordered a steak dish and as usual, requested it medium. When the steak was brought out it was closer to rare/medium rare, so i sent it back. When it was brought out again, it was still closer to medium rare, than medium. At this moment, I should have opted to keep the dish and hope the steak continued to cook while I ate my baked potato. However, I did send it back one more time. When it came out the third time, it looked like shoe leather. I thought really? It went from **** to this? I understand there can be a fine line when cooking a steak but this seemed like it was almost on purpose. The waitress apologized and said this is completely over done, let me get you another one. Now I 'm not usually one to even send food back, and I felt badly over this. However, NOTHING could have prepared me for what happened next. The chef, and as I later found out, the owner, came out and asked if I was the one who ordered the Chesapeake Steak. I said yes I did and he replied that steak was cooked perfectly I said it was too rare for me. He then asked me if I read the doneness descriptions on the menu because that was medium rare. I responded, but I ordered it medium. He then proceeded to say well we 'll take the meal off the bill but you won 't get another steak . I said excuse me? My father told him I still wanted a steak and he said Not here, not from me you won 't! and walked away. I was stunned. I often order steak in a restaurant, I know how I like it prepared and know what a medium steak is supposed to look like. To have an OWNER confront me in the dining room in front of other patrons like I didn 't know how to order my food was completely uncalled for and unprofessional. I understand from people in the area the business is currently up for sale and the owner just wants out and this may explain his attitude. Well, if he wants out, this is one less person he 'll have to cook for again. I will be sure to return AFTER it 's sold and under new ownership! There is a plus side to this story, though. The wait staff and hostess were extremely nice and completely apologetic over the incident and even did end up bringing me more steak, anyway!
We came here for brunch and we were all impressed with the food! The portions for the French toast are very hefty and the lemon berry stuffed French toast was out of this world. Others in our party had the strata which was also amazing. The prices are a little bit high for French toast and omelets but the flavor is excellent. One con was the service was a bit slow. However they were very accommodating to our requests. The decor is a little all over the place with vintage and modern touches. I think if they kept it all vintage it would really enhance the atmosphere. If you aren't in a rush I would recommend this place for their breakfast options!
Went there for a special Valentine's dinner. Very disappointing!! When I questioned the waitress if the crab cakes were a lot of filler or mostly crabmeat, the waitress replied that it was just enough filler to hold it together. So I took that to mean not much filler. Needless to say it was a lot of filler and not much crabmeat. Also my fruit garnish had a produce sticker on the grape. The mini muffins they served were nothing special like the ones you can buy at Costco. Overall a very over priced restaurant for the quality of food! Wait staff was attentive.
