Now, the restaurant (which opens April November) offers a great mixture of local cuisine with the freshest regional season products in addition to a boutique in which local produce crafts are sold, along with wines from the region sold at very reasonable prices. The menu at Le Comptoir is excellent there are a wide choice of dishes, many of which you can share, there’s always a hot dish of the day and a tartine of the day, plus a great selection of home made desserts. A reservation is a must as tables are limited (open both lunch dinner Tuesday Saturday plus Sunday lunch). Cadouin itself is a wonderful village with both the Abbaye and the Cloisters a must see (the abbaye is free to enter, there is a small charge for the Cloisters however if you keep your ticket, this gives you free entry into the Chateau de Biron (20 mins away, or vice versa with your ticket rompt he chateau).
Superb meal garlic soup was a wonderful extra. Highly recommend, will definitely return. Booking essential.
I am a naturally positive person and I do not like posting negative reviews but I really want to ensure that others do not waste their money as we did recently. We live locally to this restaurant but had not eaten there so we booked a terrace table for a Sunday night during August. On arrival, we were told that our table was indoors and when I insisted that I had booked for the terrace, the waitress clearly didn't believe me but managed to seat us outdoors anyway. We sat for 25 minutes before we were our order was taken during which time we were not even given a glass of water never mind being offered a drink. After 1 hour 20 mins, I had to call a waiter over to explain that all we had eaten was some peanuts. My garlic soup was then brought out a full 1hr 30 mins after we arrived. This was followed by a dry and tasteless plate of confit du canard and some potatoes. The apple tart dessert was OK. The whole experience cost us €75 and, to be honest, was much less satisfying and enjoyable than the €12 takeaway pizza which we had eaten in our garden the night before. Such a lovely setting but we will DEFINITELY not be back.
We stumbled across this restaurant and asked for a table at around 7pm and I think we must have got the last available table. At 7.30 we sat down and the place rapidly filled. First they serve garlic soup which is delicious. Then starter, main and desert. If you go for the dearest option there is a cheese board in between. And the selection and quantity is huge. The staff in the main are family and are very friendly, English is very well spoken. It is the nearest we came to proper French cuisine, not frites with everything. Half a bottle of Bergerac house wine €7 and all wines reasonably priced. We returned two days later and were not disappointed, it is a lovely setting as well just opposite the square and abbey.
Situated bang in the centre of this charming village, just opposite the abbey is this small, local restaurant. It was a hot day and busy but the service was quick and very friendly. We ordered the set menu at 15.50 euros. This started with an excellent garlic soup which I have unsuccessfully tried to replicate since my return home. Second plate was a large slab of duck liver pate with salad. For the main course I had the duck legs with sauteed potatoes and my husband had braised beef, both were very good. There was a wide choice of deserts or a generous portion of selected cheeses. With a nice bottle of wine this came to 45 euros in total. Strongly recommended.
