It saddens me to write this review as it seems other patrons have had polar opposite experiences and we chose stillwater as it was recommended by multiple friends. We booked our visit 4 weeks in advance as the final dinner/crown jewel of our week long holiday in Tasmania and left feeling our money could 've been spent wiser at a beautiful tassie pub. Sadly our Entrees (Kingfish Sashimi and Coal Grilled Quail were the highlights. When you pay 85pp for 2 courses, you normally expect the mains to atleast impress you, sadly this was not the case this Friday evening. The Lamb Rump was medium to medium well, despite the server specifically telling us it was going to be medium rare (without us asking . Whilst the dish looked impressive and the protein was tender, I honestly struggle to remember one outstanding (or combination of flavour from the dish. Both the lamb rump and the koji aged eye fillet seemed tender but neither had sufficient caramelisation of the crust and other reviewer 's suggestions of the proteins simply being sous vide would make sense in our case. I 've honestly had tastier eye fillet at gala/awards night when they 're feeding masses in the hundreds it simply lacked seasoning and sufficient caramelisation! Whilst the dish as whole was balanced (as none of the elements shone , it was unfortunately not memorable. My partner was also bemused when she tried to add a side of miso glazed pumpkin, the server quipped that he wouldn 't be taking dessert orders until after our mains before she could even finish saying miso glazed and to me, it came across quite rude how he cut off my partner. I then clarified we 'd also like to order a SIDE to which he took the order, but the miso glazed pumpkin side never came out and there wasn 't even an acknowledgement of their error. To be honest, after experiencing our mains we were fine not having to experience any more of the food.Would love to give them another go, but honestly we had much more memorable experiences at other locations that did the local produce justice and if we returned, this place wouldn 't make the revisit list.

You can't go past Stillwater for an iconic Launceston dining experience. Housed in the historic Richie's Mill it has unparalleled views of the Tamar and a very warm and convivial energy. The service is outstanding, true hospitality pedigree here. The food incorporates Tasmanian ingredients with a fusion twist. My favourite time to go is lunch to enjoy the river views but special occasion dinners are also a must. The winelist is spectacular and has a broad range of Tassie delights plus some rarer numbers from further abroad. Book ahead to avoid disappointment.
