Izanagi Japanese Cuisine - Lagos

This restaurant offers a fusion of Japanese and Thai cuisine, managed by friendly Indian staff, with Afrobeat music playing at a lively volume. The interior is charming, but the menu is rather convoluted, which adds to the overall confusion of the dining experience. I had hoped for authentic Japanese flavors, but ended up feeling quite baffled. The dishes are individually priced, which can be challenging for larger groups, as the menu doesn’t lend itself well to sharing. Although the manager made a sincere effort to assist us, I left feeling unsatisfied; our group of five barely managed to order enough food for two. While the large bowls of soup and white vegetable salads were plentiful, none of the dishes truly captured the essence of Japanese cuisine. Even the hibachi rice fell short of expectations. The prices are quite high, likely due to elevated rent costs, but it seems some diners believe that a higher price ensures quality. Too often, a pleasant atmosphere leads to the assumption that the food and service will be exceptional as well. Unfortunately, while the service was commendable, the food did not meet my expectations. In the end, I left feeling disappointed and frustrated, having hoped for a wonderful family dining experience.

The Japanese cuisine here is of exceptional quality and absolutely delicious, though you should be ready to spend a little more. The ambiance and presentation are outstanding, and the cocktails are genuinely delightful, making the overall experience worth the price.

I truly loved their sushi and sashimi, and I must also praise their quick service!

The service was outstanding and fast. The menu had such a diverse selection that it made choosing a bit challenging. The food was delicious, and the ambiance was truly charming—definitely a full recommendation. We even asked for chopsticks as a keepsake, and they were more than happy to provide them!

The food is amazing, and the manager is wonderful! However, the waitstaff could enhance their service by being more attentive to details.
